Thank You, Baby Girl

THANK YOU…

For keeping me warm when my toes were cold since I rarely wear socks.
For being there for me when I was home alone; I can’t sleep by myself.
For being so good with all the children who visited; it was just the way you are.
For quickly forgiving me when I wasn’t so patient with you; which was quite often.
For finishing up all the French Fries during our late night fast food runs.
For joining me on all those Starbucks runs, even when you were getting carsick.
For chewing up my favorite dress giving me a reason to buy a new one.
For not keeping track of mistakes, and I’ve made one too many.
For giving me the best birthday gift.

Your name was Magic just like the NBA star. When we brought you home, we called you by a different name, one that is well-known in our favorite vacation spot … For over 10 years, I yearned for children who would grow up and call me their mama. But, what I didn’t realize was that I already have a child of my own. In you.

Sure, you have more legs than a normal child, but you’re still clumsy like me.
Sure, you tend to not hear us when we yell for your attention, but it’s called “Selective Hearing.” (Blame the floppy ears!)
Sure, if there was a fetch tournament you’d win last place; you max out at three. Sometimes two depending on your mood.
Sure, you lay around all day and night; you just want your beauty sleep.
Sure, you nearly knock us over at the top of the stairs whenever we return home; you were excited to see us again, no matter how short of time we were away.
Sure, your tail is the exact height as our coffee table which has been cleared often when you pranced by— or become an unfortunate event for some toddlers.

Thank you, Maile.

For being my perfect baby girl with a cold, wet nose and four paws et al. I will miss you so much. But, I know you’re in heaven no longer in pain, no more cancer … Wagging your tail and knocking over all the angels you meet. Please do try not to knock over Grandma & Lolo up there.

I’m sorry I didn’t say this enough, if ever: Thank you for having me as your mama.

Image(s): (Dec 2001 – Apr 2012) You took your last breath today … You’re in heaven now. Thank You for filling our days with unconditional love. We love you so much.

04/14/12 [Edited to Add]: Thank You… For acknowledging Maile’s life. Your texts, emails, phone calls, and comments did not go unappreciated. I am a lucky girl. Today, we scattered her ashes in the river, the same place where she used to jet ski with us and play with all the kids. I know she’ll make her way to the coast, her other favorite place to be. She was my sweet baby girl with four paws … I miss her everyday. <3

A DREAM COME TRUE…

When I first noticed this unfamiliar email in my inbox, I was still in Miami learning from some amazing film photographers; at first, I thought it was spam so I almost deleted it. Forever. Then, I noticed a few familiar names: Jonas Peterson, Junebug Weddings, and Kim Oanh Nguyen who is also a Portland-based photographer and owner of Plywerk … It appeared that the Bali-based magazine discovered my work on Junebug Weddings’ blog where Bonny+Derrick’s wedding was featured.

I shared the exciting news from Miami with Bonny+Derrick, then we had to wait until now to share it with the world: Their beautiful Bali wedding was PUBLISHED in Dream Weddings Bali Style Magazine!! I’m so happy for them; all that hard work planning their Bali destination wedding while Bonny was in Jakarta, Indonesia, and Derrick still in Portland, Oregon … It was emotionally challenging, but it paid off because their wedding got featured on an international wedding blog and now published in a magazine that is distributed throughout Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, UAE, Hong Kong, Taipei, and globally in digital format via Zinio.com!!?? WOW!!!

Image(s): Dream Weddings Bali Style is distributed throughout Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, UAE, Hong Kong, Taipei, and globally in digital format via Zinio.com; Bonny+Derrick’s wedding is part of the March-June 2012 issue! If you’re in Australia or Asia, then be sure to pick up a copy in newsstands! I can’t wait for my hardcopy!! (The article is an 8-page spread and titled “Two Worlds One Love.”)

GORGEOUS. Also, totally envious, as having two brides, both in gorgeous gowns, is totally on my bucket list. Kudos to JC for including these lovely women in the workshop. #3069

Tip: How to Get into Wedding Photography (Webinar)

WHAT I’D TELL BUNN IN 2007 WHAT I KNOW NOW…
Last weekend, I had the absolute pleasure of presenting on a live webinar hosted by New York-based wedding and portraits photographer, Mark Kumar. When he first contacted me with this “crazy idea” as it he puts it, I honestly couldn’t think of how I could contribute. What would I possibly know that would interest someone else— that would keep their attention for an hour? Doesn’t he know that I talk too much and too fast sometimes?? Oh, don’t get me laughing because no one should hear how loud I laugh! Well, Mark saw something in me even beyond the loud laughter and felt I had plenty of wisdom and experiences in the photography business to share.

I’m so grateful for the opportunity, my first-ever live webinar— actually, my first webinar/public-speaking of any kind! After 10 minutes into it, it really did just feel like I was chatting with a friend over the phone, not to 50+ people from around the world. Eeks! Mark, I never knew that “meeting” you on Google+ would lead to this wonderful and memorable milestone in my career. I appreciate your friendship and will be stalking you when I make another visit to New York. So, be sure to have some NY steak ready for me! *cyber hug*

Image(s): Get a cup of coffee then tune in to my first-ever webinar … I hope you enjoy it! (NOTE: Video duration is 90 minutes long. I told y’all that I talk too much!)
